Dealing with criticism: Thick skin, sense of humor

If you loved country music and your best friend loved rock and roll, you wouldn’t stop your friendship.
If you loved a movie and your friend didn’t, you would still be friends.
People have different likes, dislikes, styles, and all sorts of other differences. That’s what makes us unique.
If you share a story with your friend, and your friend doesn’t like it, that’s perfectly fine. You may be writing something in a style that they don’t appreciate. You may not like all of their stories either.
The best way to deal with criticism is to realize that everyone has different tastes. Develop a thick skin. Handle dislikes with a sense of humor. You enjoyed writing the story, so that’s all that really counts.
It’s YOUR story. Write it the way you want it. And if some people don’t like it, that’s fine. You can always write another story that they may like!
