There was a stray dog named Bryn. She wanted to find a home. One day she decided to find one, but first she had to eat and sleep because it was going to be a long trip. The next day, she got up, ate breakfast and left. She found a path to walk on but Bryn soon found out the path lead to the woods.

Bryn said to herself, “I think I should go in.” Although it was a sunny day, it was dark and spooky in there. As Bryn stepped in, out comes a bat. Bryn ran out of the way. The bat flew away but only after he said, “Be careful of the fox!”

“OK,” said Bryn. She walked in and shuddered at the thought of the fox. After all, she was only small. She told herself, “It will be OK.”

Terrified, Bryn ran and ran. She stopped near a town, thinking she would find food. “Oh no! I’ve got to get out of here.”

But it was too late. She had been seen by Animal Control and captured.

At the adoption center, one of the only sounds were the barking dogs. After two weeks went by, she began to get lonely. Then one day – Ding Dong – and some people came in. Bryn knew she would not get picked. Lots of people have come in and no one but a two-year-old cared for her.

She was right. They walked right past her. They stopped at the little dog Jim. They went all the way around the building and asked one of the employees to visit some of the dogs. They then chose Jim, Susy, and her!

It all happened so quickly. Bryn chose to go to the oldest girl, Rubi. Bryn found that it was comforting with her. She couldn’t believe she might get adopted by the Thomson family.

The girl and her family left. Later that day, Rubi and her family came back with their father. They went back into that small room where they met the dogs. Bryn went back into that small room, too.

Bryn went to the father this time. After that, she went around the room. The father liked her. She was getting adopted!

The girl’s parents had to sign some papers, then it was finished.

SCOUT: I got toys and a cage. And then I got to go home. They called me Scout.

———-

Soon after Scout was adopted, the Thomsons adopted another dog. His name was Jem and this is his story. The Thomsons were so excited that they were going to get a new dog! They were going to name him Jem. He was a puppy, a basset hound puppy. When they got to the animal shelter, the lady that was selling was not very nice. Jem was so cute and sweet. The Thomsons loved him. When the mom and dad went to go get coffee, Rubi and her siblings stayed to look after Jem.

On the ride home, Jem took turns sitting on everybody’s laps. Rubi was the last one to hold him and Jem peed on her lap. But other than that, he was good for Rubi. When they got home, they introduced Jem to Scout, and thankfully, they got along just fine.

THE END
